Special Lecture:Brain Stimulation: Perspectives for the Future

摘要

Therapeutic chronic stimulation of the nervous tissue represents one of the most important advances in the last decade in functional neurosurgery. With the accumulation of experience, the promise of brain stimulation has become clear and the effectiveness and limitations of this therapy in different clinical conditions have become more appreciated. In fact, the knowledge gained with the application of stimulation for movement disorders and pain has been leveraged toward the treatment of other disorders, including epilepsy and psychiatric conditions. The current review will focus on the areas of future engagement and investigation of electrical stimulation.
