AUTONOMY AND PERFORMANCE IN TECHNOLOGY SERVICES ORGANIZATIONS

This paper investigates the relationship between the level of autonomy and company performance in the context of technology services organizations (TSOs). It also suggests that the effect of autonomy on organizational performance is moderated by the TSO's level of technology intensity. This effect is investigated with the help of data from technology services organizations in the Washington D.C. area. Preliminary analysis indicates that the level of autonomy is positively related with TSO performance. No evidence was found for the moderating effect of technology intensity on the relationship of autonomy and TSO performance.
