The combination of expanding their sourcing practices into distant countries and a renewed emphasis on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is raising the visibility Codes of Conduct (CoC) as a critical management tool. Global sourcing increases the risk to a firm's reputation as working conditions and environmental practices of supplier firms are subject to scrutiny by NGOs and consumers alike. Typically, responsibility for CoCs lies in the supply chain function, but the supply chain literature has not really addressed the topic of conduct codes, from creation through to implementation. Through structured interviews, this project will shed light on the use of conduct codes as a tool to mitigate reputation risk and support a firm's CSR efforts.
