Chitosan microparticles for protein delivery were prepared by spray drying. The particles obtained at high temperature were smaller than those prepared at lower temperature. Incorporation of protein resulted in larger particles. Actual protein loading was comparable to nominal loading, indicating stability of protein. As loading level was increased, protein was released faster and reached the maximum of release sooner. Conclusively, spray drying technique is a very efficient process for preparation of chitosan microparticles intended for protein delivery, despite high temperature of the process.
