Castration to reduce testosterone levels in male cats, dogs, and other domestic species has long been an accepted practice in veterinary medicine to address a number of issues, including testicular neoplasias, population control, and undesirable behaviors.1)2 Many hormonally driven behaviors in male birds result in owner dissatisfaction or -elinquishment, including aggression, inappropriate vocalizations, self-injurious behaviors such as feather picking md self-mutilation, and sexual behaviors such as masturbation and regurgitation.3'4 Individual case experience mggests that these behaviors may be mitigated or alleviated through castration.
