摘要

The FINEX~R smelting-reduction process is the most exciting iron making technology today. On August 16, 2004, the steel giant POSCO signed a contract with VAI related to the construction of the world's first commercial 1,5 million t/a FINEX~R plant, which will be built at POSCO's Pohang Works in Korea. A door has thus been opened to a new era in the production of hot metal. The FINEX~R technology has been developed on tie basis of the COREX~R technology, the only industrially route. Both environmentally friendly iron making technologies are based on the advanced Melter Gasifier operation and offer operational flexibility and a wide variety in the use of raw materials, thus, resulting in considerable economical benefits compared to the conventional blast furnace route. White COREX operates on lumpy feedstock, the FINEX~R technology features the production of high-quality liquid hot metal on the basis of directly charged iron-ore fines, which are reduced to DRI in a series of fluidized-bed reactors and melted to hot metal in a separate melter gasifier using coal as energy source.
