This paper presents a model for the prediction of mechanical properties such as Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS) and Yeld Strength (YS) for Aluminium-Killed and Interstitial Free steels. The developed mathematical model is based on the physics of the phenomenon under consideration, but also on the observations performed at the ILVA Works in Novi Ligure (Italy), where several data have been collected. Such data have been exploited also for tuning some of the model parameters via Genetic Algorithms. The model has been designed to receive as inputs only data that come from the production line, such as the time and reheating temperature, the finishing and coling temperature and all the temperatures referring to the annealing process as well as the steel chemical analysis. The model has been implemented through a software realised in the C++ programming language; an easy-to-use graphical interface allows to elaborate both the data referred to a single coil and a series of data referring to many coils stored into a database in a predefined Excel format.
