Status of the COREX and FINEX technology - 2005

The COREX~R technology that is a young technology compared to the traditional blast furnace route has its roots in the search for a process that is environmental friendly, can produce on industrial scale hot metal without BF quality coke and should be more economical feasible compared to the traditional blast furnace route. Being faced with an investment stop during the last years for hot metal production and a rough climate for new investments into new technologies after the cancellation of several developments of other iron making technologies, no new COREX~R plant came into the marked.
