EXPERIENCE ON THE OPERATION OF THE INCINERATOR FOR SOLID AND LIQUID RADIOACTIVE WASTE IN THE WASTE TREATMENT CENTRE JASLOVSKE BOHUNICE/SLOVAK REPUBLIC

The Waste Treatment Center for low and intermediate solid and liquid radioactive waste constructed on the site of the Slovak Nuclear Power Plants Bohunice as the facility for volume reduction of combustible waste includes a two-chamber incinerator with wet cleaning system of the off-gas. The secondary products – scrubbing water and ash – are treated in the Waste Treatment Centre by cementation and highforce compaction respectively and subsequently by introducing them into the waste-packages – concrete containers as the final product of the waste treatment and conditioning process. Since beginning of the operation in March 2000, these facilities treated about 240 000 kg of solid and 22 000 liter of liquid radioactive waste . First results gained during the first operation phase of the incinerator and treatment of the secondary products will be discussed.
