ROLL DAMPING MEASUREMENTS OF A FREE-SPINNING BOMB

Irregular bomb behaviour during a number of full-scale flight tests resulted in an investigation on the possible causes of this instability. Part of the investigation concentrated on the characterization of the roll and pitch damping behaviour of the bomb. Defencetek was contracted to aid with these characterizations in their MSWT (Medium Speed Wind Tunnel). The first phase and the topic of this paper dealt with the roll damping measurements techniques.
