Characterization and Preparation of Waste Magnesium Chip for Hydrogenation Process

Most of magnesium waste forms of chips are produced in the machining process of materials made by die casting, rolling and molding. In generally, waste magnesium can be recycled, recovered and reused depend on structural properties. Some of waste magnesium can be easily to recycled and recovered to the primary metal quality related with purity and quantities of oxides. Magnesium and magnesium based materials are attractive as a potential for hydrogen-related application. For this purpose, characterization and preparation of waste magnesium chip (WMC) were investigated for hydrogenation process. In this study, various structural observations were performed by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis. Furthermore milling, which is used for improves both the morphology the surface activity of the chips, is applied for preparation of WMC for hydrogenation process. The characterization of milled waste magnesium chip (MWMC) has also performed by XRD, XRF, SEM with EDS analysis techniques.
