The efficiency of current commercial buried contact solar cells is limited by the properties of low-cost boron-doped Czochralski silicon wafers. The light-induced degradation (LID) present in cells made with low resistivity wafers can be overcome using gallium-doped wafers or wafers with low dissolved oxygen concentration such as floating zone (FZ) wafers or magnetically grown Czochralski (MCz) wafers. LID-free cells have been produced with efficiencies of 18.4% on Ga-doped wafers, 19.2% on FZ wafers and 16.9% on MCz wafers
