Status of vascular surgery in Sweden,November 2003

Sweden has not had Vascular Surgery as a recognised speciality, but for the last 10 years there has been an informal schedule for training, prepared by the Vascular Society. Training has been accepted in all hospitals with Vascular Surgery, but part of the training is recommended to take place at specific (mostly university-based) hospitals Examination within the Vascular Society is recommended.Presently major changes will take place The Government is close to a decision to accept Vascular Surgery as a subspecialty, which means that new rules have to be prepared. Probably this will start rather soon, and it seems therefore less practical to present details of the informal rules.
