A systems approach to the design and implementation of a remote monitoring and diagnostic facility has resulted in a significant enhancement to the monitoring of food storage facilities. Wireless technology has been combined with web access and novel multi-point temperature sensing to provide a flexible robust infrastructure. The diagnostic part of the overall system combines knowledge of the physics of the process together with appropriate analytical tools. Early results show that important system failures can be detected.
