Effect of low calorie gas on the electrolytic electricity consumption in solid oxide electrolysiscells (SOECs) is investigated. Testing cells which have a thin electrolyte membrane on aporous Ni-8YSZ tube are fabricated by using the wet process to reduce operating temperature.To measure amount of producing hydrogen precisely, a testing bench which has a quadrupolemass spectrometer and a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer is built. From the result ofthe experiment, it is clarified that the testing cells operated at 700 °C produce hydrogen atvery low electrolytic voltage of approximately -0.2V to 0.2V with current efficiency of 100%.
