Participation des jeunes a la lutte centre le SIDA Au Burkina Faso

Issue: In many programs, young people are only considered as beneficiaries, not as real actors. The program managers assume that they are not able to plan and implement correctly a project. Description: In Burkina Faso, a network of young people's associations fighting against AIDS called Reseau Africain des Jeunes centre le SIDA -Burkina Faso (RAJS-BF) has been created in 2001. At the beginning, there was about 40 member associations. Now they are more than 200. This networking experience was presented at the Youth Forum during the International Conference on Sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS in Africa (CISMA) in Ouagadougou in December 2001.. Now RAJS-BF has gained a strong leadership. Lessons learned: Young people's participation in youth AIDS Prevention Programs has shown to be a major condition of success. The fight against AIDS can be a good entry point for the development of young people potentialities. Recommendation: Institutions and agencies which have programs for adolescents and youngpeople must learn to trust them as actors.
