Installation and characteristics of high-by-pass engines are discussed. Active control methods have been proposed to control engine vibration transmission. The compliance substructuring approach is demonstrated as a tool to evaluate various active control parameters. The system model includes an airframe empirical model and finite element models of the engine and nacelle. Various locations of control pickups and active forces are studied. Results indicate that control pickups near the source are not effective in controlling downstream cabin noise. Direct use of cabin noise pickups are much more effective but may not be practical due to installation complexity.
