A class of admissible functions known as quasi-comparison functions can be used with the Rayleigh-Ritz method to quickly and accurately solve the differential eigenvalue problem. This method includes the proper selection of admissible functions and an effective solution technique for the equivalent generalized algebraic eigenvalue problem. Natural frequencies and mode shapes can be found for a variety of boundary condition and tension effects. The results of this technique can be used as a basis for comparison with results from experimental dynamics tests. This is particularly useful when dealing with suspension effects.
