A modal test of a large structure may involve hundreds of output transducers and several input transducers. Yet for this same test, only the first 20 to 30 deformation modes will be of relative interest. This results in a heavily over-determined model which, when solved, will result in many extraneous, computational poles. This paper will present a technique which reduces the degree of over-determination while retaining the significant modal information.
