The dynamic response of an elastic beam structure excited by a mass train traversing the span is discussed in this paper. A finite element model to analyze the problem is presented. An experiment is developed in order to compare measured to the finite element results. The test is performed using a specially designed test fixture, the experiment is described along with an evaluation of the hardware's dynamic modal characteristics. A comparison of the experimental and the finite element responses shows good agreement for the test conditions considered.
