The aim of this work was to determine the optimal dynamic modeling criteria for molded components assembled with spot welding. To allow complete modeling successive of the car body, the FE model of the components must not be overly complex and, in addition, the degree of complexity added by the weld modeling must be minimized to the utmost. A car body component (the fore crossbeam) comprising two welded subcomponents was analyzed. The various types of modeling for each subcomponent and the assembled component were validated in step-by-step by experimentation on actual structures. The welding spots were modeled using constraint equations between the nodes of the connected subcomponents. Several attempts were made to position and distribute the connecting systems. The results, which provide excellent numerical experimental correlation, can be of considerable aid in determining generalized modeling criteria for components of this type.
