A typical matrix polynomial solution to a frequency domain parameter estimation problem involves the pseudo-inversion of large matrices, whose dimensions are related to the number of spectral lines used in the process. For a frequency band encompassing several modes, the number of spectral lines can easily number in the hundreds or thousands. This paper reviews two methods of selecting "significant" spectral lines from this set in an attempt to reduce the size of these matrices, without sacrificing significant modal information.
