A web-based integrative simulation platform for HDD product design

The globalized Hard Disk Drive (HDD) development is characterized of geographically dispersed, multi-disciplinary and multi-objective design synthesis, which results in the need for developing an integrated simulation platform to empower the inexpensive and rapid predication and analysis of product integrative behaviors. This paper presents a web-based and domain-specific integrated simulation platform for HDD device design. This platform is designed to provide a workplace with secure and reliable session management for designers across disciplinary, geographical, and enterprise boundaries to rapidly publish individual simulation interfaces, build integrated simulation models, and apply 3rd party tools as well as collaborate each other. In this paper, architectural framework and application services of the platform are given. The application of such a platform in the integrated simulation of HDD suspension and flex-circuit on suspension is illustrated. The primary results and the key evolving technologies for a prototype platform implementation are also described.
