Enabling a making-to-order production business model brings both benefits and challengers for an enterprise, especially for the one in a competitive market environment. In order to improve the efficiency of product development and manufacturing, traditional process model must be reengineered. Customized product configuration has long been proved as an efficient approach to increase the speed for introducing of product to market and to reduce the cost for business practices. Due to its importance, it is an active research topic both in academia and commercial world. Customized product can be developed through a customized process. In this paper, a concept of process configuration for making-to-order for enterprise is investigated. Process configuration is based on a well-defined process components assembling methodology. The key techniques and a supporting system for implementation are also discussed in the paper.
