In 1 973 a colour variable pulsed Hg-Ne discharge lamp was invented and reported by Itatani's group[l]. The colour of Hg-Ne discharge was controlled by changing electron temperature by changing pulse frequency. After this report, his group reported that the lamp colour can be controlled by not only frequency but also duty ratio, pulse width and pulse shape as well[2,3]. Following Itatani's group, Maya's group reported about colour variable mercury fluorescent lamps using burst pulse and different type of phosphors[4]. Kroesen's group proposed Hg-Ne colour variable lamp using depiction elTect[5], All these lamps use electrodes inside a tube. The authors propose a new type of colour variable discharge lamp using inductively coupled plasma (ICP), electrode-less discharge. In this paper we report new technique and experiments on ICP Hg-Ne colour variable discharge lamps.
