An air curtain injection equipment for regulation of transient pressures in a cooling water pumping station has been in successful operation during about twenty years. The transient pressure problems originated from check valves of the cooling water supply system. The closing of the check valves gave rise to sudden peak pressures in the range of 9.0 to 12.0 bar (in some cases up to 15 bar). The propagation of pressure shocks generated significant forces and led to equipment failure. On the basis of numerical modelling, were elaborated solution of the problem by means of high-pressure air-bubble jet-impulse-injection was found. The efficiency control showed pressure peaks below 2.5 bar. The automatic, remote controlled air curtain injection system was installed on all pumps.
