Preliminary experiments for testing the sensitivity to naphthalene of different fungi isolated from PAH contaminated soil are described. Tests were carried out on liquid medium of isolates: Absidia sp., Aspergillus sp., Gliocladium sp., Mucor sp., Penicillium sp., Trichoderma harzianum and Trichoderma koningii, using naphthalene as toxic target compound owing its highest concentration in contaminated soil. On the basis of obtained results, several tests on degrading capability of T. harzianum were performed in liquid medium. Biodegradation tests showed that at least 50% of naphthalene was degraded through a cometabolic process and that 20% was absorbed on biomass.
