A new program for engineering education in Commonwealth African countries

This paper looks at the present engineering programs of universities in Commonwealth African countries, identifies the paucity of management studies in them and proposes an alternative approach in the training of engineers through strengthening areas of business management and economics. The paper goes on to show that with the introduction of these courses the engineering graduate will be better prepared to fit into the business or organisational environment. The graduates from the program being proposed may not find the need to enroll for graduate studies like the MBA or similar programs owing to the level of management of business skills that graduates would obtain from the proposed programs. The paper goes on to suggest how this new structure may be implemented.
