Zimbabwe - a country report on soybean rust control

Soybean production in Zimbabwe has been limited by three diseases in the last decade, namely, red leaf blotch, frog-eye leaf spot and soybean rust. Phakopsora pachyrhizi was first recorded in Zimbabwe in February 1998. Pathologists and breeders have adopted a practical, integrated control strategy, which includes an early-warning of rust infection, the use of effective fungicides, and the development of resistant, agronomically-suitable cvs. The need for the accurate timing of sprays during reproductive growth is highlighted.
