The Epidemiological Study to Clarify the Characteristics of the Elderly with Asthma

The important point in treatment of the elderly with asthma is to provide therapy according to Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) and to conduct education for adults with asthma. However, there are problems peculiar to the elderly. For the purpose of clarifying some of the problems, a survey of 1033 patients with asthma and their primary physicians were conducted in Okayama Prefecture. Its survey was consisted of questionnaire on asthmatic characteristics, symptoms and medications. Statistical analysis was performed using chi square for independence test. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Elderly with asthma were compared to other age groups, such as child, young adult and adult.
