Conventional interpretation methods are challenged to effectively identify carbonate oil/gas reservoirs in China. This is because those carbonate reservoirs in China are generally deep and situated in a complex sedimentary environment. Furthermore, they demonstrate low porosity, low permeability, and strong heterogeneity. In this paper, we developed a new prediction method based on joint seismic attributes. The proposed method combines seismic attenuation and seismic instantaneous phase properties to construct a joint indicator, which can be used to characterize the pore-permeability features and thereby identify gas-bearing rocks in complex carbonates reservoirs.
