Graphene has shown promising potentials in the development and applications of polymer nanocomposites. This study investigates the properties of polyethylene terephthalate/polypropylene (PET/PP) blends as a function of concentration of graphene nanoplatelets. Exfoliated graphite nanoplatelets (xGnP) were incorporated in a compatibilized blend of PET/PP by melt blending techniques in a twin screw extruder and test samples prepared by injection moulding. The resulting nanocomposites were characterized by mechanical and morphological analysis. The results indicate improvement of mechanical properties of the nanocomposites. Morphological studies showed exfoliation of xGnP in the blend matrix. Proper distribution and interaction between xGnP and the polymer matrix account for the observed improvements in mechanical properties of PET/PP blends nanocomposites.
