Effect of Yarn Structure on Tensile Properties of Ramie Twisted Yarn-reinforced Green Composites

Natural fibers have often been used as a continuous form called spun yarn in textile industry, because the plant-based fibers are limited in length. This form has a potential for expansion as a reinforcement of green composites. In the yarn mechanics, it is often pointed out that the yarn tensile properties depend on yarn structure. In the conventional yarn mechanics, yarn tensile properties are often expressed by a function of twist angle. In this study, we focus on the twist contraction ratio (TCR) as a parameter alternative to the twist angle. The results show that the relation between tensile properties of the twisted yarn and yarn structure can be comprehended more reasonably than yarn twist angle when choosing TCR as a parameter.
