Two methods (admixing of elemental Sn powders VS admixing of prealloyed Cu-Sn powders) for Sn addition to die sintered friction Cu-base composites were tested. Series M composites, produced by admixing of composite component powders (Cu, Fe, C and ZrO2) with 2 wt. % of elemental Sn powders, showed a sintered density lower than a green density. In contrast, Series CS composites, produced by admixing of prealloyed Cu-16 wt. % Sn powders with other composite component powders, showed a sintered density higher than a green density. Employing the prealloyed Cu-Sn powders resulted that Series CS composites showed higher hardness, lower friction coefficient and lower wear rate, compared to those of Series M composites.
