Nowadays, the membrane fouling stays the most limiting phenomenon in membrane processes. The structural characterization of membranes (roughness, porosity, pores size) can help in the understanding of fouling phenomenon. For that, an acoustic method is proposed to characterize the porosity of membranes with or without fouling. A low frequency acoustic technique was used and a Kundt's tube was manufactured according to the European standard ISO 10534-2: 1998. This feature allows to obtain the porosity of a material by measuring the material impedance. In a first time, the tube was calibrate with two well-know materials (melanin and cork). In a second time, 0.1 μm microfiltration membranes were studied and the porosity was determined.
