In the studies on noise reduction, it is necessary to know the generation mechanism of sound to identify the noise sources. As there is a complex relation between the structural surface vibration and the radiated sound power resulted from these vibrations, this paper deals with a simplified radiation model that was originally developed as a verification tool for the acoustic intensity measurement procedure. As the first step to identify the sound sources of general structures caused by vibration, we studied the typical structural members of square plate. Cross correlation between the displacement pattern of resonant vibrational mode and experimentally determined intensity pattern was found.
