AH APPROACH TO THE RECONCILIATION OF FINITE ELEMENT AND MODAL TEST STUDIES

An approach to improve the correlation between Finite Element (FE) and Modal Test studies is examined through the solution of an exercise carried out under the auspices of the Group for Aeronautical Research and Technology in Europe (GARTEUR). Methods to localise the position of errors in the FE model are explored and the model finally adjusted using a least squares error minimisation. The effect of measurement errors in the generalised mass is examined. Some conclusions about the efficacy of this approach compared with other approaches identified in the literature are drawn.
