The creation of a Computer Aided Design program for ultrasonic machining tools is presented herewith. The finite element method was used to compute the first longitudinal mode of vibration of the tools employed, when machining by ultrasonic waves. To find automatically, by the finite element method, the appropriate dimensions for a tool to vibrate at the first mode around 20 kHz, a geometrical model was built up, which uses the geometric parameters and "macro-elements" to reproduce the geometrical shape of the tool. The geometry was then approximated by means of isoparametric triangular elements, each "macro-element" has different types of meshes associated with it.
