Technical solutions for converting conventional into automatic operation Command and control systems for public transport in Germany are designed at present mostly for non-automated train operation. Due to long experience and historical grown structures, specific procedures of operation are raised. Looking for realization of project RUBIN there was the high challenge to preserve the existing technical systems and related operational procedures as far as possible. So the technical solution for RUBIN is a result of well defined interfaces which are embedded in the existing equipment with its specific functionality. The functionality of added equipment was allocated as result of an analysis process taken into account the duties of train operational staff under respect of German laws and regulations.
