This paper is the latest in a series published by the Civil Engineering Laboratory of the State University of North Fluminense (Rio de Janeiro / Brazil), reporting the contamination caused by the improper disposal of urban solid waste in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes (Brazil). A comprehensive research program has been carried out by this group in order to assess environmental impact of solid waste disposal in the industrial area of the city. The focused was heavy metals contamination. This work presents some results of a geophysics survey performed with the transient electromagnetic method. An electromagnetic device (SIRO-TEM MK-3) of the National Observatory of Rio de Janeiro was used. One hundred and eleven vertical profiles were performed. The results of this study conclude that there is a higher concentration of heavy metals in the areas of lower elevation of the landfill, what is reported in Santos et. al. (2003).
