In this paper some world ports which regular containers sea links with "Le Havre" were compared in function of both, their empty containers traffic evolution and their economic environment A new service called "non-regular shippers" is proposed as a possible alternative to profit empty containers traffic. This paper contributes to understand the connection between port's empty container traffics, total traffics port's positions and general economic environment in their respective countries. The criteria to measure the port's empty traffic evolution is a basic and concrete rate called ECTER which allows us to establish an appropriate comparison into ports and to define empty container tendencies to each one. A systematic analysis is introduced in this study to identifying 56 world ports based on the technique of standardised principal components analysis in terms of their total container traffic, empty container traffic evolutions and their economical environment. Analysis allows to clarify the mutual influences and to compare it between world ports. Furthermore, economic assumptions in combination with connections defined by analysis and specialized data of empty containers traffic in "Le Havre" port, allow us to identify ports with potential to develop the proposed "non-regular shippers" service. Four clusters of similar world ports are identified within which empty container traffic status and tendency comparison can be made. The results shows interesting connections between empty container traffic, economic ports environment and geographical location. Moreover, graphic analysis of individuals (partners ports) allows explaining port's evolutions and tendencies in the empty containers traffic. Finally, results highlight the relationship between empty container traffic, local economy environment and feasibility approach to implant the proposed maritime transport service to non-regular shippers.
