The training environment support system: a system designed to enhance dynamic satellite operator training

The introduction of advanced satellite technologies has necessitated the development of new satellite operations centers and, likewise, new training facilities. This paper describes the design of a training system that is intended to benefit simulation training facilities being developed to support emerging satellite operations capabilities. The objectives of this training system are threefold: (1) to increase training fidelity by emulating applications used in satellite operations but missing from the new training facilities; (2) to provide training support tools that will present trainees with explanation and guidance as well as dynamic support in the form of agent-based performance assessment and feedback; and (3) to provide an instructor operating station from which instructors can monitor and manage training.
