This paper examines the mode shapes and natural frequencies of a system composed of two annular plates. The plates are connected by transverse stiffeners located in the radial directions. The boundary conditions are prescribed so that all edges are free except for the inner edge of one of the disks which is fixed. The stiffeners along the radial directions are approximated as line springs. The effect of the angular position of the radial stiffeners on the mode shapes and natural frequencies is studied by a modal synthesis technique which uses the characteristics of the free vibration of an annular plate with its inner edge fixed and outer edge free with those of an identical free plate.
