Minimizing Preservative Losses: Fixation A Report of the P4 Migration/Fixation/Depletion Task Force

In 1994 the Executive Committee of the American Wood Preservers' Association proactively assigned the Preservatives and Treatments Subcommittee to assess how to best minimize preservative losses to the environment, The chairs were selected from the P1and T1 Subcommittees with Craig Mclntyre representing the Preservatives Subcommittees and Scott Conklin the Treatments Subcommittees. In April of 1995 the two chairs met and decided that minimization would not necessarily mean preservative "fixation", that whatever was to develop would be applicable to all commodities and preservative systems, that facts and data would be used in the development of any new Standard addressing minimization and that the goal of the chairs would be to develop methodologies and not "endpoints". The chairs recommended that minimization address losses to the environment, perhaps using the already developed Best Management Practice (BMP's) with some additional post treatment specifications for the preservative systems and to develop a quantifiable analytical procedure for the P5 Subcommittee.
