The Emissions and Dispersion Modeling System(EDMS)is used to calculate emission of several pollutants from various sources at airports.One of these sources is aircraft flying into and out of airports.Not every type of aircraft(or engine)is in the EDMS database,therefore,substitutions are sometimes necessary.There are several important considerations and parameters that may be used to help determine an appropriate aircraft substitution,including the size of aircraft(maximum takeoff weight),engine type and number of engines.Based on first hand experience,trial-and-error and consultation with the FAA and the airplane and engine manufacturers,this paper presents methodologies for making aircraft selections.One of the methodologies presented shows how to create engine emission data based on engines already in the EDMS database,using horsepower and engine type.
