A combined plasma scrubbing(CPS)system has been proposed and investigated for simultaneous removal of SO_2/NOx(NO + NO2).CPS consists of dielectric barrier discharges(DBDs)and a scrubber unit in series.CPS uses the DBDs to generate nonthermal plasmas for converting NO to soluble NO2,and subsequently absorbs NO2 and SO_2 by a scrubber unit with 0.1 M Na2SO3(aq)as scrubbing solution.A laboratory-scale CPS was applied to treat simulated exhausts in the laboratory and an exhaust from a diesel generator.More than 90% of NO,NOx and SO_2 can be simultaneously removed.This study demonstrates the technical feasibility of CPS for simultaneous removal of NO,NO2 and SO_2 from gas streams.
