SEACAP Does Source and Ozone Reduction:A Study of Public Outreach by the Chemical Industry

Over the last year,in a project that is fairly unique to community advisory panels(CAPs),the Seashore Community Advisory(SEACAP)has begun(1)to work with its sponsoring companies to reduce the hazardous chemicals that they use and transship and(2)to work within the community to reduce the ozone it produces.This was Phase I.1 What should SEACAP do in Phase II to continue to further source and ozone reduction? One of SEACAP's goals in developing a source reduction project was to help other communities understand the reason for concern behind implementing source reduction.This paper begins with an overview of how SEACAP evolved into a separate Community Advisory Panel.It then discusses source reduction and the companies that sponsor SEACAP.The paper explains what VOC_S and ozone are and why it is important to monitor and control them;it shows where there are opportunities for source reduction;it develops recommendations for source reduction;and it evaluates progress and suggests what should come next.
