摘要

With the objective of developing an economical and environment-friendly biotechnology,this work presents parallel studies of the biodegradation of non-halogenated(toluene,xylene and trimethylbenzene),and halogenated(monochlorobenzene)aromatic compounds.Four laboratory-scale,compost-based biofilters were operated,under aerobic conditions,and without previous bed inoculation,taking advantage of the indigenous ecosystem.The influence of the concentration of nitrogen delivered to the filter-beds via irrigation solutions was studied and the influence of carbon dioxide production on the elimination capacity was evaluated.This work constitutes one of the first studies of trimethylbenzene and mono-chlorobenzene removal in a biofilter.
