Comparison of Different Cable Technologies for Access Networks in the Dense Zones of Rural Areas

摘要

The basic problem of the so-called Rural Areas is the low density of customers, but cable solution deployments are based in terms of the population, as one of the basic costs is the trenching of the cable. Here a model is developed, based on a geometrical equivalent area, which allows the use of a closed formula for finding the optimum radius, maintaining the population density constant through the whole territory under research. It is shown that the optimum solution depends of the radius of the cell, containing the local nodes. The model allows evaluating investments in a very short time, which is an excellent tool for determining the risks and taking decisions about the involvement in a Broadband Business in a given region. The model is simple and the evaluations are performed without big expenses. The level of accuracy of the model is sufficient for these purposes.
