Our recent studies on nitrogen-bridged dinuclear complexes direct to the development of multimetallic catalysis coupled with reversible protonation/deprotonation of the bridging nitrogen ligands, as in the structurally related mononuclear catalysts with NH2-ligation. We have previously found that the coordinatively unsaturated, yet air- and moisture-stable dinuclear complexes [Cp*M(μ-NTs)]2 (1a, M = Rh; 1b, M = Ir; Cp* = η~5-C5(CH3)5; Ts = SO2C6H4CH3-p) undergo reversible N-protonation to give the corresponding amido-imido complexes 2. We report here the reactions of 1 and 2 with H2.
